  1. New Zealand Key projects in 2008 1. JOINT INITIATIVE: 11.514 additional joints have been replaced over a four year period under a government initiative. 2. OSTEOPOROSIS: The sentinel fracture survey continues, and has been submitted for publication. A joint bone forum has been held for media and politicians in association with osteoporosis NZ. Funding for bone scans will be increased. 3. HEALTH PRIORITIES: Information gathering to highlight the burden of musculoskeletal disorders in NZ. We hope to get government recognition on their list of health priorities. 4. EDUCATION: Liase with Australian AMSEC (Australian Musculoskeletal Education Competencies) project to improve skills. BJD ANNUAL WORLD NETWORK CONFERENCE November 30 – December 1, 2008, PUNE, INDIA Key patients group activities and outcome Regular public seminars are held in Association with Arthritis NZ and service groups Key interactions with ISC, other NANs, regional groups, governments Annual meeting with members of the NZ network. Bone forum with osteoporosis NZ to increase awareness. Key development plan for 2009 Increase funding for dexa scans after sentinel fractures. Lobby politicians for inclusion in NZ health priorities. Improve medical student competencies.
