Introduction • One out of every eight people in the world is chronicallyundernourished (UN). • The percentage of people living on less than $1.25 a day fell in South Asia from 61% to 36% between 1981 and 2008. The proportion of poor people is lower now in South Asia than any time since 1981. Still, the South Asia region is home to many of the developing world’s poor. (World Bank) • Agricultural investment has long shown itself to be one of the most effective and sustainable means for reducing hunger and poverty”, said José Graziano da Silva, director-general of the FAO. • The growing need for sustainable agriculture around the world has fueled a search for effective ways of delivering it.

  3. Sustainable Agriculture is vital for the enhancement of food security, alleviation of poverty and promotion of economic growth in the rural areas. Food Security Sustainable Agriculture & Rural Development Economic Growth Alleviate Poverty Rural development generally refers to the process of improving the quality of life and economic  well-being of people living in relatively isolated and sparsely populated areas. .

Conclusion • Rural region needs a distinctive strategy that reflects its unique strengths • For rural development to succeed it needs the following: Food Security: Adopting new technological innovation , using Crop per Drop, and Cross-Country Investment Alleviate Poverty: Building human capital by ensuring that the rural settlers have access to education, health care, employment and social safety nets Economic Growth : Ensure greater accountability and transparency of governments, by building the capacity of legislative bodies and supreme audit institutions in their budget overseeing roles. It is also helping to implement e-procurement systems, better delivery of public services, and right-to-information regulations.
