IVC History • Illinois Board of Education - HECA grant • Cooperative effort by • University of Illinois • College of Lake County • Sauk Valley Community College • Waubonsee Community College • Funding - $1 Million FY00 • 60 cents out of every $1.00 - Student Support Centers • $125,000 special initiative grants

IVC Mission • The mission of the Illinois Virtual Campus is to assist distance learners in Illinois • by providing access to the distance education offerings of the state's colleges and universities • by providing any local support services needed by students to complete distance education successfully

IVC Mission, cont. • By providing access to the various Illinois online initiatives that assist distributed learners in Illinois via the IVC website • By linking the specific online education and training needs of Illinois businesses and industries and their employees with online courses and programs provided by Illinois colleges and universities

  7. IVC Online Catalog • Searchable database • Over 1600 courses • 884 or 53% are Internet • 46 certificate & degree programs (44 Internet) • 48 colleges & universities represented • IBHE approved & NCA accredited • Public & private

  8. Trivia: 1999 Fall Enrollment • 38 out out of 48 institutions reported • 515 Internet courses – 5887 enrollment • 197 videotaped/telecourses – 5264 enrollment • 250 interactive TV – 3718 enrollment • 932 total courses – 14,629 reported enrollments

  9. History of Student Support Services • 15 Student Support Centers were established at community colleges statewide in August of 1999 • 2000 - 40 centers are located in every community college district

  10. Student Support Center Criteria • Access to computers and Internet • Access to technical support • Access to libraries. • Testing services • Advisement • Marketing
