  3. What is a maintenance grant? 1. Maintenance grant: A maintenance grant is a contribution towards the living costs of a student and is payable at (a) the standard rate, at either a full (100%) or part (75%, 50% or 25%), depending on the level of reckonable income or (b) the special rate which is payable depending on the level of reckonable income and on condition that you are in receipt of an eligible payment as at the 31 December 2012

  4. Adjacent and Non Adjacent? The maintenance grant is paid at either the adjacent or non-adjacent rate, depending on the distance between a student’s home and the college. The adjacent rate is payable if the student’s home is determined by the awarding authority to be 45km or less from the approved institution they are attending. The non-adjacent rate is payable in all other cases. A dependent is anyone in your family who is: a sibling under the age of 16 years on 1 October 2012; a sibling or parent over 16 years and attending a full time educational institution; a sibling medically certified as permanently unfit for work.

Documentation Needed –get started!! -Long form of birth certificate (if born in Ireland) Income from employment or non-social welfare pension P21 PAYE balancing statement P60 or if applicable, P45 Income from all social welfare payments- A written statement from the Department of Social Protection Income from self-employment including farming (Copy of accounts for each business) Notice of assessment (Self employed) Copy of receipt from a PRSA or Retirement Annuity provider Rent and other income from land and property Copy of accounts for each business Income from maintenance, separation/divorce agreements Maintenance agreement, stating amount received each month
