Why and how are those points made? • Where are the examples, evidence, and explanations? • Are they effective? Why or why not?

  4. Exemplification Practice • Read the following article from the NYT Why Fear National ID Cards? By Alan M. Dershowitz • Annotate exemplification • Identify the following: • SOAPS Tone • Ethos, Logos, Pathos • Answer the following: • What is the main purpose of this letter? • What point(s) is MLK trying to get across? • Are those points made? Why and how are those points made? • Where are the examples, evidence, and explanations? • Are they effective? Why or why not?

Exemplification Essay • Exemplification: Using Kozol’s essay as source material, write an essay in which your thesis is Madison’s statement, “A people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power knowledge gives” (2).
