Motivation • Wanted to build a new HST proposal preparation system to replace RPS2 • Want this system to be highly graphical and to help users in defining their proposals • Wanted to incorporate some if the concepts and software developed by the SEA project at Goddard • Visual Target Tuner • Exposure Time Calculator • Want to handle both Phase 1 and Phase 2 proposal preparation http://apt.stsci.edu/

APT Top Level Infrastructure and GUI • APT has a framework for managing documents and plugging in tools which access shared data within those documents. • APT provides several basic document editing tools: • A Document Browser shows the document elements in a hierarchical view. • A Form Editor provides access to the attributes of a single document element. • A Spreadsheet Editor shows multiple elements in a table format. • APT allows new tools to plug in and share proposal data. http://apt.stsci.edu/

  5. APT Plug-in Tools • Plug-in tools to be included in APT include: • Text Tool • Displays a text summary of the proposal • Visual Target Tuner (VTT) • Exposure Time Calculator (ETC) • Orbit Planner (OP) • Links to Trans • Visit Planner (VP) • Links to CASM http://apt.stsci.edu/

  6. APT Features • Easier to navigate than RPS2 • Pull down menus • Undo/Redo within a session • Drag and drop for reordering • Global Search/Replace • Cut/Copy/Paste within the tree browser http://apt.stsci.edu/

How to Participate • APT Requirements Discussions: • Subscribe to apt-req majordomo list. • Have a representative at APT requirements meetings Tuesdays at 1PM (locations vary). • Try out APT • APT can be downloaded from http://apt.stsci.edu/ • APT with the Orbit Planner can be downloaded from: http://apst.stsci.edu/apt/apt-orbit-planner/ • Read the release notes to avoid the known issues. http://apt.stsci.edu/
