  15. Civic Tower… • It dates back to the thirteenth century. It has a square shape and in the Middle Ages was one of the gates of the walls enclosing the village below the castle.

  16. Church St. Margherita and Potito • Lauro main church is dedicated to St. Margaret and stands in the centre of the Town Hall square. It has a single nave with side altars and has a coffered ceiling.

  17. Chaplain Palace or Tuffs Palace… • The building is located in Preturo area and was commissioned by Giovanni Del Cappellano. It is very interesting for its ashlars facade of gray tuff, cushion shaped at the bottom and diamond in the upper, in the middle of which there is an enormous entrance door.

  18. Via Terra… • Via Terra is the ancient road that cuts through the medieval village, including the fortress of the castle and the old city walls. Along the way you can still see the architectural elements dating back to the eleventh and twelfth centuries, when the San Severino ruled the country.

  19. Pignatelli Palace… • The building, famous for its grotesque by Vasari, is home to two museums, one dedicated to the polar explorer Umberto Nobile and the other to naive art.

  20. The Collegiate church… • The collegiate church once stood upright in a low area of the country , then during the sixteenth century it was rebuilt in a higher place along the walls of the castle as it was subject to constant flooding. Burned during 1799 by the French, it was restored in the nineteenth century. Currently, the collegiate church is used as an auditorium and conference hall.

  21. The Lancellotticastle… The town of Lauro is well-known for the majestic Lancellotti castle , built in the early XI century. It is famous not only for its artistic value, but above all for its historical role. The castle named after the present owners Lancellotti family, once belonged to the San Severino and Orsini. It had been destroyed by fire that burnt down on the night of April 30th 1799,set by French troops. It was rebuilt in 1872 by Prince Philip Lancellotti, in an architecture of alternating elements in Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. Today the castle is in perfect conditions and is open to the public. In fact you can have wedding parties there or enjoy a night of medieval revival.

  22. The Roman villa… • In the area of Lauro you can visit one of the most beautiful Roman villas ever built in the region of Irpinia. It is the Roman villa of San Giovanni In Palco, in perfect Roman-style. This villa is located outside the town, on the hill side facing the valley.

  23. Fellino Arch… • The building dates back to the XVII century, but it was restored in 1789 and a clock bell was added . The arch was used as a gateway to the town of Lauro. It was built in white stone and rests on massive square pillars which support an architrave on which it develops a structure.

  24. Umberto Nobile… • Umberto Nobile was born in Lauro on January 21st . He was a Professor of Aeronautical Engineering at the University of Naples and General of Engineers Air Force from 1919 to 1928 . Nobile became known to the general public for his two flights across the North Pole with the airship Norge in 1926 and the airship Italia in 1928, the latter ended in tragedy.

  25. Lumina in castro... • "Lumina in castro” is a great event which takes place every year since 2006, on late August nights. Visitors are guided through many rooms of the castle where the actors and the guides put on a performance that follows a particular historical period related to the Castle life, between the Middle Ages and the XIX century. The decor of the rooms, the costumes and the music faithfully reproduce the era represented. The event, moreover, is accompanied by games and shows in other areas of the castle.
