  2. Nixon wanted to end the war as soon as possible. • Nixon appointed Henry Kissinger, a Harvard professor, to specially assist national security affairs. • Kissinger created a policy called linkage, which improved relationships with China and the Soviet Union. It also supplied aid to Vietnam

  3. August 1969, Kissinger and Le DucTho, north Vietnam's negotiator, met in secret to talk about the possibility to return American war prisoners, to discuss future of South Vietnam, and a possible cease-fire.

  4. Nixon announced on June, 8 1969, that 25,000 solders will be vietnamized • vietnamization- reducing the number of American solders in Vietnam and letting South Vietnam take over more for the fighting. • Nixon also increased airstrikes on North Vietnam and Vietcong camps in Cambodia
