Golf Competitions Research
Tournaments/Competitions • Golf competitions can be played in both singly and in a team. As I shall be covering the none professional side, this tends to be team games, normally club vs. club. • It allows the club on whole to become more recognisable and move up in the leagues to play others of a better quality.
Potential Issues • Weather- You can play golf in all sorts of weather and climates however some are more approved than others. For cold weather they suggest warm clothing and use a specific type of ball. However they strongly recommend not to play in very windy weather and they will cancel the competition, same goes for snow.
Areas of Interest • Scoring- In match play each hole is contested individually. The player who takes the lowest number of strokes on that hole wins the hole. If the number of strokes are even, the hole is considered to be halved. The player who wins the most holes wins the game. Should there be less holes left to play than are required for a player to lose the lead, the game is considered over and the remainder of the holes are not played.
Interest Surrounding Topic • Handicap- In amateur golf, the majority of competitions cater for players who have a wide range of golfing ability. If no allowance was made for this variation then the relatively small number of high-ability players would be successful in all competitions
Interviewee’s Background • The person I am interviewing Golf on is my neighbour Jon Owen. Jon plays golf on a regular basis and competes in various tournaments which he has told me about. He plays at least once a week and competes every other week (according to him) so I shall be interested in hearing what he has to say.
