  2. Essential Question:What is the multiple intelligence theory?Do you think you have more than one intelligence?

  3. THEORY OF MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES • Dr. Howard Gardner, professor of education at Harvard University, studied the brain for over 20 years. In 1983 he developed a theory of Multiple Intelligences. • He believes that intelligence is a biophysical potential that reaches achievement due to cultural and motivational influences. • Did you say - Huh?

When cultures value certain competencies, the children in that society are given an opportunity to develop those competencies and abilities. • Our society generally VALUES mathematical and science related skills. • Intelligence is multifaceted, otherwise high achievers would perform at high levels all across the board. • Multiple Intelligences is indicated when the same person can find advance subject matter easy in one area and difficult in another – • We all have all 8, but are stronger in some than others.

There are currently eight basic Intelligences • Visual-Spatial (picture smart) • Bodily-Kinesthetic (Body smart) • Verbal-Linguistic (word smart) • Naturalist (nature smart) • Musical-Rhythmic (music smart) • Logical-Mathematical (number/reasoning smart) • Intrapersonal (self smart) • Interpersonal (people smart) • Existential (spiritually smart) #9

Record this on your Multiple Intelligence Tally Sheet. PLACE FOR THIS AT THE TOP! • PLACE A TALLY MARK IN THE APPROPRIATE COLUMN FOR YOUR INTELLIGENCE ON THE SMARTBOARD TO ADD TO THE CLASS CHART 2. Go to the following website: (copy & paste the link) http://surfaquarium.com/MI/intelligences.htm • Do five activities ; not all lead selections lead to games – you will have to click around • On you Multiple Intelligence Tally Sheet record which activities you did and describe how they did or did not support your strong intelligence.
