  2. The Early Years National Taiwan University College of Law, 1961 University of Chicago Law School, LLM De Paul University, J.D. Admitted to practice law in 1971 District of Columbia Supreme Court of the United States

  3. A Difficult Beginning • Only 6% of law student body consists of women in 1975 • Began my legal career at Chicago Title and Trust. • Selected as the Legal Counsel to all five Illinois State Universities over 102 other candidates.

  4. Path to Happiness • Sacrifice and willingness to meet my clients’ goals regardless of the hurdles ahead of me. • Built my firm up from the sole desire to help my clients. • Have now expanded to a mid-size boutique firm

  5. What You Represent • Must fully understand the clients’ need. • Reach goals quickly and inexpensively to the client. • My motto: • Communication is the key • Understanding human psychology is a must • Honesty is the only policy

  6. Experience with politics • Actively participated in Illinois Democratic Activities. • Ran for political office 4 times, without success. • However, have learned and networked through my losses for the benefit of my clients. • The next generation should participate more in American politics in order to create awareness of the contributions of immigrants.

  7. Tao v. University of Arizona • Helped Professor Cha Lin Bao Tao with her fight against the University of Arizona regarding discrimination she faced. • Took on the case despite its difficulty and complexity. • Charged the University of Arizona with various counts of violations of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. • Settled the case and earned Professor Tao a position of Associate Professor with the tenure track.

  8. Practice of Law • The practice of law is a way, a practice of life. • Ready everything, pay attention to world news and events, focus on the issues, and make decisions intuitively based on logic and reasoning. • It is good to win, but it is better to lose because losing teaches you how to win again.
