  1. John 6:16-24 16When evening came, his disciples went down to the lake, 17where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them.

  2. 18A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough. 19When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were frightened. John 6:16-24

  3. John 6:16-24 20But he said to them, “It is I; don’t be afraid.” 21Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.

  4. 22The next day the crowd that had stayed on the opposite shore of the lake realized that only one boat had been there, and that Jesus had not entered it with his disciples, but that they had gone away alone. John 6:16-24

  5. 23Then some boats from Tiberias landed near the place where the people had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks. John 6:16-24

  6. John 6:16-24 24Once the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum in search of Jesus.

  8. Jesus FedThe Multitude

  9. Jesus LeftThe Multitude

  10. Jesus compelled the disciples to get in the boat(Matthew 14:22; Mark 6:45).

  11. There was a movement to make Him King • The Problem: • Not God’s purpose. • Not God’s timetable. • It would inciteRome. • Disciples couldn’t handle it.

  12. Did He know the storm was coming? • The feeding of the 5,000 was “part a” of the lesson The storm was the second ½.

  13. If feeding the 5,000 was the lesson… The storm was the exam!

  14. Sometimes we get caught in a storm because we disobey. • Sometimes a storm comes when we obey… • to teach us to trust.

  15. Several miracles are involved here. Jesus walks on water. Peter does the same. Jesus stills the storm. The boat is instantly on the other side.

  16. Impossible • + • Unreasonable • + • Jesus Christianity

  17. Lessons Bread and circuses were the Romans formula for keeping people happy. Jesus was not impressed with crowds. Pleasing us is not Jesus’ main goal. Often it’s when things are out of our control that we learn who is in control. Remember not to forget!

  18. “FEAR NOT, I am”.

  19. When they took Jesus into the boat they found peace. • What threatened to be over the head on the disciples was already under the feet of the Lord.

  20. Jesus is God’s answer to man’s despair.
