SAT • Register for the SAT on www.collegeboard.org • Dates: • Dec. 6th PHS • March 14th PHS • Procedures: • Must submit photo when registering • Must bring photo i.d. and admission ticket to test site • The redesigned SAT will launch in spring 2016 For more information go to: https://www.collegeboard.org/delivering-opportunity/sat/redesign

  5. SAT (continued) • 4 free score reports can be sent to the colleges/universities of your choice during the registration process • Additional scores can be sent to colleges from collegeboard.org for $11.25 • Super scoring • SSD • Fee waivers

ACT • Register at www.actstudent.org • 4 free score reports can be sent to the colleges/universities of your choice • Additional reports can be sent to colleges from actstudent.org for $12 • Administered at Richmond Sr., Lee Sr. and O’Neal High Schools • ACT Dates: Dec. 13, Feb. 7, April 18, June 13th • Juniors will take in March of 2015 • Fee waivers

  7. Applying to colleges • Apply to colleges using: • CFNC.org • Common Application • Individual college website • Deadlines: • Early decision • Early action • Single choice early action (highly selective schools) • Regular decision

Applying to colleges (con.t) • College Board recommends that students apply to 4 colleges: 1 “reach” school, 2 “good fit” schools, and 1 “safe” school • Recommendations • Ask in advance • Ask those who know you well and can give personalized recommendations • Provide a resume to recommenders • College Application Week • November 10-14, 2014 • CFNC.org

  9. NCAA Eligibility Center WHO? Any student/athlete considering a Division I or II School • http://web1.ncaa.org/ECWR2/NCAA_EMS/NCAA.jsp • Request transcript from Ms. Carter, Registrar, after junior year • Send scores from ACT/SAT directly to NCAA

Transcripts • Submit transcript electronically on CFNC.org for NC schools • OR see Mrs. Carter, Registrar, in Guidance for a transcript request form • List colleges and scholarships where you would like your transcripts sent • Pick up official transcripts the next day and mail them to the colleges • Exceptions • If a college has a counselor form ask your counselor to prepare transcripts and counselor form • If your student took Sandhills Community College classes in high school he/she will need to request a transcript from Sandhills once class is finished in order to receive college credit. PHS transcript lists Sandhills classes and can be used for college admission purposes.

Financial Aid • Types of Financial Aid: Grants, Loans, Work-Study, Scholarships • Completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) • www.fafsa.ed.gov • Apply for a student PIN and a parent PIN • Can begin FAFSA on January 1st of each year • Need personal info, tax returns, and financial info • Awards package from colleges • Consolidated Financial Aid Workshop January 27,2015 6-7:30 p.m. Owens Auditorium, Sandhills Community College • SCC FAFSA day, Saturday, Feb. 28th 2015 9:00am-12:00pm • CSS Profile
