  1. Advising Notes in DegreeWorks A Guide for Faculty Advisers

What are “Notes” in DegreeWorks? • The “Notes” feature of DegreeWorks allows you to create an official advising record that will be available to you and any other present or future advisers of the student. • Your advisee also sees the notes you have posted on his/her record, unless you opt not to display a note to the student.

  3. Notes can be added one of 2 ways: • The paper/pencil icon near the top of the screen is a shortcut to adding a new note. To modify or delete a note, or to view all notes for a student, you must use the Notes tab. Notes Icon

  4. Notes can be added one of 2 ways: • By clicking on the “Notes” Tab just above the audit, you can access the full Notes menu. Notes Tab

  5. The Notes Tab Menu You will initially see a list of all notes entered for the student, along with the name of the adviser who added the note, and the date the note was added. To add a new note, click “Add Note” on the left.

  6. Adding a New Note Enter free-form text in the text box, or click the drop-down menu to access a list of predefined notes. Text Box Drop-Down Menu

  7. Adding a New Note, Continued If you choose to use the drop-down menu, you may select multiple notes.

  8. Notes are Visible to Students By Default By default, all advising notes are visible to the student. If you do not want the note you entered to be visible to your advisee, be sure to add a check to the box labeled “Not available to student.”

  9. Save Your Note When you are finished reviewing your note, click the “Save Note” button to post it to the student’s record. A message will appear on the screen to verify that your note was added successfully.

  10. Modify Your Previous Notes If you would like to change a note that you saved previously, click on “Modify Notes” on the left. Edit Note Save Changes Simply edit the text within the note, and click the paper/pencil icon to save your changes.

  11. Delete Your Previous Notes If you would like to delete a note that you saved previously, click on “Delete Notes” on the left. Delete Note CAUTION: the only action required to delete a note is clicking the paper/pencil icon.

  12. Where Does My Note Appear in the Audit? All notes appear at the very bottom of the student’s audit. Confidential notes are denoted by a check-mark in the “Internal” column. Confidential indicator
