  3. Our History • Reincarnated in 2002 after a 2 year lapse • Have been in existence since the early 1960s • Last year we had 5 active members and 30 more on our email list • Became involved in Democratic primaries and ran Dean and Kerry Meetups

  4. Beginning this Year • Prepared all summer to get ready for Nov. • First day of classes, George Bush came to Carlisle and we shuttled 65 members to the protest – earned front page story • At our Activities Night, we signed up over 300 new members – compared to 75 Repubs

  5. Pre-Election Activities • Brought in a liberal author and speaker for a lecture • Held Debate Watch Parties for all three debates, bringing in 100, 250, and 75 people respectively • Canvassed Carlisle and Harrisburg 4 times • Watched “Outfoxed” and “Going Upriver” • Drove members to see Kerry, Edwards, Teresa Heinz Kerry, Elizabeth Edwards, Al Sharpton, Howard Dean, and Joe Hoeffel

  6. Voter Registration • Held a bipartisan registration drive on campus • Brought PA Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll, State Senator Mowry, State Rep. Gabig to campus for drive kickoff • Brought up-and-coming rock band State Radio to campus; descendant band of Dispatch • Worked with College to run Ben & Jerry’s Night for registration • Registered 350 Democrats and 100 Repubs • Provided over 250 absentee ballots

  7. The Election • Spent the month prior doing visibility in town every day • Worked with Kerry staff in Harrisburg to plan GOTV for county • Sent 65 people out at 10pm on Nov 1 to drop door-hangers on EVERY Democratic door in Carlisle, Mechanicsburg, and Camp Hill • Organized about 70 volunteers on E-Day • Drove Dickinsonians to polls • Held a party for over 150 people • Carried out GOTV plan for Cumberland County • Helped get near 100% Democratic turnout and 40% of the vote in County with 60% Repub registration

  8. Post-Election • Held social events immediately after the election to keep up morale • State of the Union Watch Party and Discussion • Attended “Principles Project” Conference in NYC • Have worked on two big projects • So, What’s Next? Conference • Central Pennsylvania Consortium Democrats

So, What’s Next? • Brought 14 schools and 70 people together to discuss future of Party • Raised over $6,000 on our own • Had five committees to discuss various aspects of public policy • Talked about the failures of 2004, but more about what we can do in the future to better reach our generation • Developed list of reforms for CDA

  11. Had the Editor of The New Republic Peter Beinart, Editor of The Rothenberg Political Report Stuart Rothenberg, two Dickinson professors, and PA Dem Exe. Director Don Morabito speak to us • Currently working on the final report, which will go to printer within a week and then on to Dem. leaders and participants • Kept momentum going, kept energy and spirit alive, and got students excited a positive

  12. Central Pennsylvania Consortium • Initiated a partnership with our sister schools Franklin & Marshall and Gettysburg to share resources, improve campaign work, and make new friends • Are bringing Howard Dean’s former campaign manager Joe Trippi to F&M in 2 weeks • Have conferences and retreats planned • Weekly conference calls and monthly meetings
