  3. Securing and further developing employer involvement in Apprenticeship delivery. • Further improving curriculum development, and teaching, learning and assessment on Apprenticeship programmes. ASSP Project Core Objectives:

  4. Norfolk Project Objectives: Work with small businesses to develop resources that will make apprenticeships work for them. Increase the number of Enterprise and Business apprenticeships locally, creating a small employer network. Develop marketing attractive to young people, particularly those unemployed or from vulnerable groups. Improve apprenticeship curriculum delivery, teaching and learning and assessment, with a specific focus on English and maths.

The toolkit will support training providers by: • ensuring that apprenticeships work for small employers and apprentices. • improving the marketing of apprenticeships to all. • improve the delivery of apprenticeships frameworks, including English maths and other required elements. Develop a toolkit of resources to improve apprenticeship delivery:

  6. The next 5 months: Project Board Working closely with employers, apprentices, schools. Develop the resource toolkit using feedback from this event. Develop & deliver workshops aimed at apprenticeship support staff. Evaluating the effectiveness of the toolkit. Making the resources/toolkit available on line to other training providers. December: A project dissemination event – the final report.

  7. Finally: Increase the number and quality of apprenticeships within local small businesses. Small businesses have a greater involvement in the delivery and outcomes of apprenticeships. Promote to young entrepreneurs who can strengthen the local economy for the future.

  9. Group Activities 1. What should training providers do to ensure that apprenticeships work for small employers and apprentices? What are the challenges, barriers and needs of those engaging with apprenticeships? What are your fears and concerns when engaging in apprenticeships? What entices you to engage in apprenticeships and how could this be improved? 2. How could training providers improve the marketing of apprenticeships? What makes apprenticeships appealing to small employers, can this be improved? How can schools be more involved in promoting apprenticeships in small businesses and making them appealing to school leavers? How can the marketing of apprenticeships to young people be improved so that they see it is a viable alternative to other options? Please also consider marketing targeted at vulnerable and excluded groups. 3. How can training providers improve the delivery of apprenticeships, please consider the whole framework, including English maths and other required elements? How can training providers better meet the needs of employers and apprentices? Are there current delivery practices that ‘switch off’ apprentices and employers? How can support staff in training providers deliver more flexible and tailored support?
