  1. The Chemical Reaction of the Alka-Seltzer Tablet Spenser Grabowski Block C

  2. How Was The Alka-Seltzer Tablet Created?

  3. Well.... The idea came about in the 1920s from a Newspaper editor in Elkhart, Indiana. A company called Dr. Miles Laboratory heard of the idea due to a story about the Elkhart editor and how his whole staff stayed influenza free during an epidemic of the flu. The alka-seltzer hit the market in 1931. What Was The Idea? The idea was a mixture made up of crushed aspirin and baking powder into a glass of water to stay influenza and sick free!

  4. So, uh... That Chemical Stuff That NO ONE Likes

  5. Alka-seltzer is made of aspirin, citric acid, and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) CHEMICAL REACTIONS, YAY! When sodium bicarbonate dissolves in water it spllits to make up sodium and bicarbonate ions! NaHCO3 (sodium bicarbonate) -> Na (positive sodium ion) + HCO3 (negative bicarbonate ion) Next, the bicarbonate reacts with the hydrogen ions from the citric acid to form carbon dioxide and water. H2(positive hydrogen ion) + HCO3 (negative bicarbonate ion) -> CO2 (carbon dioxide) + H2O (water) The Carbon Dioxide is what produces the bubbles when you drop an Alka-Seltzer Tablet in a glass of water!

  6. REACTANTS, REACTANTS, REACTANTS. • There are a couple of things that might affect the reaction process such as: • Size of the particles. The reaction happens on thesurface of the tablet. Such as splitting the tablet into smaller pieces might make the reaction happen quicker. • Temperature. If you place the tablet in warmer water, the molecules are more likely to move faster because heat causes particles to have quicker motion. • Concentration of acid in water. Acid is needed in this reaction, if the water might have a higher acid concentration there is a slight chance that the reaction will happen quicker. And.. The limiting reactant of the reaction is NaHCO3!

  7. CLEAN A TOLIET

  8. Hey, Spenser! What Are Some Uses For Alka-Seltzer Tablets?

  9. Attract Fish

  10. Clean Hard To Reach Areas

  11. Polish Jewelery

  12. Remove Burnt Food From Cookware

  13. Soothe Insect Bites

  14. Within the years Alka-Seltzer has transformed from a simple tablet to know pills instead of drinking a wretched tasting drinking!
