Incoming Class of 2009 • 161 students • Ages 21-28 (mean: 23) • 55% male, 45% female • Underrepresented in Medicine 13% • Black 6.2% • Other Hispanic 6.2% • American Indian .62% • Asian Pacific Islanders 20% • Academics: • Mean GPA: 3.81 • Mean MCAT: 35.7 • 61% science majors • 39% non-traditional students who spent time after undergrad in various activities including Peace Corps, Fulbright Scholar, research at Universities and NIH, Global Health experiences with Clinton and Gates initiatives and Partners in Health, health care business and consulting, Teach for America and AmeriCorps • 61 undergraduate colleges/universities in 31 states represented

Programmatic Initiatives, 2009-10 Increase number of MD students graduating from formal (certification or dual degree) interdisciplinary programs: • 40 students will receive dual degrees this May (with 6 students also earning certificates) • 22 PhD • 6 MBA • 5 MPH (1 from Penn, 4 from other institutions) • 4 MBE • 2 MTR • 1 MSc • 21 will receive certificates for year out research experiences • 5 will receive a Clinical Neuroscience Track (CNST) certificate • 9 will receive certificates in Global Health • 5 will receive Women’s Health certificates

Curriculum Changes 2009-10 • Pre-clinical curriculum : • All small groups are mandatory • Group exams in Biochemistry, Renal, Pulmonary, Gross Anatomy, Infectious Diseases in Mod 2, MDTI, and Brain and Behavior • Cancer-biology longitudinal curriculum implemented • Aging longitudinal curriculum implemented (Reynolds Grant) • Clinical: • Evidence-based medicine course (Module 4) • Prep courses occurring at the Clinical Simulation Center at Penn Medicine at Rittenhouse including ACLS training, clerkship procedural training, scenario training, transition to internship and Botswana rotation preparation. • New Frontiers courses • Personalized Medicine: Reed Pyeritz • Environmental Health Science: Trevor Penning & Rebecca Simmons
