The High Tech Fair engages middle and high school students and teachers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning experiences in the context of industry and research applications.  High Tech Fair goals are to; • Provide interactive experiences for San Diego area middle & high school students and teachers in high tech applications of STEM industry examples related to science learning • Establish a network of STEM professionals to provide relevant demonstrations of emerging and standard technologies.

Inquiry-based approach • Engage student interest; guide the development of questions • Discuss with students what they already “know” or think they know to help address the question(s) • Ask students to make a prediction or hypothesis in answer to the question of interest. • Plan and implement an experiment to test the prediction (hands-on) • Reflect with students on the results of their hands-on activity or investigation and use their predictions to assist them with gaining new and deeper understanding of content. Be alert for any shifts from “prior knowledge” as students integrate their new experiences. • Communicate new knowledge via presentations, posters, demos.
