  2. What is Real Time Processing? • Real Time processing is when the processor responds to input instantly. • In these processing a delay of even nanoseconds is unacceptable. • The data is processed immediately, thus making information current and readily available.

  3. Examples of Real Time Processing 1. Airport In airline reservation systems as reservations are cancelled and made every second throughout the day. Therefore operators need to know the instant moment when seats on a flight become available or booked.

  4. Airport Booking

  5. Examples of Real Time Processing 2. Nuclear Plants Due to the extreme danger that maybe caused if something goes wrong various settings must be monitored in order to know the instant when this happens. Thus real time processing systems are needed to respond in nanoseconds.

  6. Nuclear Power Plant

  7. Real Life scenario Japanese Earthquake 2011 In 2011 an 8.9 earthquake struck Japan and caused a massive tsunami. The tsunami caused a number of nuclear accidents, primarily the ongoing level 7 meltdowns at three reactors in the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant complex. Many electrical generators were taken down, and at least three nuclear reactors suffered explosions .

  8. How Real Time Helped The Power plant could detect an earthquake which causes the plant to shut down instantly. This caused for a shut down of power everywhere automatically, which prevent the damage from being far worse.
