  15. Registration • Registration is through UAOnLine. • Registration step by step instructions. • The Registration website gives students all the information to effectively register for class. • Graduate Students webpage can be especially useful to new students.

  16. Financial Aid The Student Financial Aid Office is located in the University Center. Much of the information you will need in applying for and receiving Financial Aid can be found on their website.

  18. Assistantships Teaching Assistantships and Research Assistantships are available to full-time graduate students. For further information, visit the website of individual schools/colleges. • Graduate assistants can be paid for the equivalent of a maximum of 20 hours per week while school is in session. Students with assistantships must be registered for at least nine credits during the fall and spring semesters (audited classes do not count towards registration requirements). • Students who have a 21 – 40 hour per week research or teaching assistantship during the summer semester are in taxable status by default and have no summer registration requirements Please review our website for more information on Teach Assistantships and Research Assistantships.

  19. Professional Development • The Career & Technical Education Department is committed to providing quality professional development opportunities for in-service teachers and faculty, counselors, and administrators to enhance their skills.

  20. Workshops • Responsible Conduct of Research • Institutional Review Board for Working with Human Subjects • Thesis Formatting Workshops will be scheduled during the Fall semester. Watch for e-mails announcing times. • Personal appointments for thesis advising may be made by calling 786-1096 or email us at uaa_graduateschool@uaa.alaska.edu. • The Office of the Graduate School offers walk-in assistance from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. every Friday. Always check the Graduate School calendar to be certain we have no scheduling conflict that would cause us to cancel a walk-in opportunity.

Cultivating a Culture of Mentoring The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) has made significant headway in fostering a new culture of undergraduate research and scholarship.  Undergraduate faculty mentors have enhanced the quality and scope of their research programs, resulting in an enrichment of UAA’s research mission and reputation. The growth in undergraduate research experiences at UAA has also given our students a better educational experience, making them more competitive for graduate school and industry jobs.

Environmental Health Safety • The UAA Environmental Health & Safety/Risk Management Support (EHS/Risk Management) Department is a resource for information about those health, safety and risks associated with research, especially research in UAA labs. • Policies and procedures relevant to lab and field experiences and research. • Federal and State regulations about workplace behavior and safety

You can also use the Emergency Phone in an elevator. • Campus Response Team (CRT)The CRT regularly sends email messages to staff and students to educate the campus community about seasonal safety issues and what to do in the event of specific emergencies.

Getting Around • Seawolf Shuttle Service – Intercampus bus service • Bike Trails • Public Bus Routes – People Mover • The Municipality of Anchorage offers a public bus system called the People Mover. The buses typically run every hour between 6am and 10pm during weekdays and between 10am and 5pm on weekends. There are 14 bus routes, serving more than 1,100 bus stops in Anchorage, Eagle River, Chugiak, and Peters Creek. • Riding the People Mover is FREE for UAA students with a valid Wolfcard (Student ID Card).  • For more information about how to ride the bus and how to get to the mall and other common places, go to the Public Bus Information Handout. • Automobile Information • If you drive your car to campus, you will need a parking permit. Emergency Communication - In the event of an emergency, UAA telephones act as speakers to broadcast emergency announcements. Call (907) 786-1800 for emergency information.   37. International Student Information • The International Student Services Office is part of the Office of Admissions and is located at University Center. Services provided by this office include admissions and immigration compliance, as well as general university information and resources.
