House Keeping • One hour long • When talking RW • Everyone muted to prevent feedback • Ask questions at anytime • To ask questions use the raise hand button left side of control panel if you are using a headset with a microphone • If you are not using a headset with a mic you can type a question in the question box • Follow up email and class evaluation

  3. Refresher Training • By the end of this refresher training you will be able to: • Organize and teach GI-BMP classes in 2014 • Describe the 2013/2014 program updates

Maintaining Instructor Certification • Follow the prescribed content • Follow the length of time allotted for each module • Keep current with all GI-BMP materials • Use only the most current versions of all materials • Complete refreshers and follow updates • Teach at least one module per year

  6. GI-BMP Certificate of Training • It belongs to the participant • Participants need to keep the original and submit copies if needed • Does not require renewal

Limited Certification for Urban Landscape Commercial Fertilizer(Appendix 7) Online Application: https://aesecomm.freshfromflorida.com/ • All commercial fertilizer applicators, by January 1, 2014 • Online or paper application • $25 fee, GI-BMP certificate number or copy, photo • Holders exempt from further local testing • Not required for private or institutional applicators • Institutional applicators may be required to obtain GI-BMP training per local ordinance • Renew every 4 years, 4 CEUs Paper Application: http://forms.freshfromflorida.com/13677.pdf

  8. Limited Certification for Urban Landscape Commercial Fertilizer • Authority to apply only fertilizers in urban landscapes for commercial gain • Does not authorize: • Application of pesticides, including pesticide-fertilizer mixes [i.e. weed and feed] • Operation of pest control business • Application of pesticides or fertilizers by unlicensed or uncertified individuals under the supervision of a certified person

In-Person Class Fee • Modest reimbursement for training expenses [$15-$30] – classroom rental, copies, other materials, etc. • If charging more than $30, you need to submit a justification to state office • FDEP does not permit any type of compensation for instructors, except as part of normal duties of employment

New Training Provider Login Three steps to Training Provider access: 1) Get a UF ID number: • http://fyn.ifas.ufl.edu/instructor-gl.htm • May take several days 2) Create a “GatorLink” username (UF computer login) 3) Notify state office to authorize your account Assistants should request accounts in their own name.

  15. Training Provider Capabilities • Add, update, or cancel class postings directly on the website • Online registration • Print pre-filled training record forms • Submit class attendance data online • Send mass emails to students or participating instructors

Scheduling In-Person Classes • Only certified instructors can conduct classes • Schedule all classes at least 30 days in advance • “Add New Class” online form (GI-BMP Training Site) • Class is published to statewide schedule • Be sure you get online verification / email confirmation • If class is not on the statewide schedule >> no training certificates 17 17 17 17

  19. 30-Day Waiver • If a class is added less than 30 days in advance, class will not be published until approved • Complete form to request approval (available from online Instructor Resources) • Requests will be based on: • Weather idling the workforce • Unexpected or uncontrollable event • Approved by the Regional Coordinator or the Statewide Coordinator

  20. Class Cancellations • Cancel the class online (GI-BMP Training Site) • Notify registered participants [by phone] • For insufficient enrollment: • Under 10 registered • 3 days notice 21

Continuing Education Units • Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) • 2 Core CEUs and 2 additional CEUs for the following licenses: • Private Applicator - Agriculture • Ornamental & Turf • Limited Lawn & Ornamental • Limited Landscape Maintenance • Commercial Lawn and Ornamental • Limited Urban Fertilizer NEW! • Current number Spanish and English 16630 • [validity of one year, new one in 2015 – see online Instructor Resources] • Florida Nursery Growers & Landscape Association (FNGLA) • 4 CEUS

  22. Training Record • All attendees must complete one • Must be legible • Must be signed • New form • Available in Spanish • Reproduce in white or light color paper • No TR, no certificate! 23

  23. Training Record Pre-fill the class info before copying Are they in the database? Name and DOB must match test forms CEUs? Certificate? Where to mail? 24

Test • Pre-test to assess level of knowledge prior to training • Different test versions • 40 Questions [8 per module] • Passing score 75% [30/40] • Scanable forms –request from state office • Multiple choice and True/False questions • Time 30 min [extra time – up to one hour] • Answer all questions – no blanks • Cover all the key points during training 25 25 25

  25. Scanable Test Forms • Request tests in advance [estimate number] • Allow extra time for instructions and bubbling • Instructions in Module 1: Introduction • Return unused tests • Name and DOB on the test must match the training record

  26. Marking Instructions • Completely fill in the “bubble” correct answer • Mark only one answer • Erase completely if changing answer • Do not make any other marks

  28. Q:What if you run out of scantron exams? A: You can make photo copies of the forms

  29. Q:What if you do not receive the exams in time? A: Contact the central office, and they will send you a PDF printable copy over email.

  30. Test: Other Languages • Instructors can make the required accommodations for simultaneous translation of the class • Students are required to complete the written test in English or in Spanish : • Supervision of the instructor • Follow test guidelines described in the Instructor Manual • Instructors are not required to provide this service • Participants need to inform the lead instructor in advance

  31. Review before the Test • Recommended • Based on the key learning points [Instructor Manual, Section 4] • A word by word review is NOT approved

Processing Documents • Send completed class materials to the GI-BMP Data Manager • Class Transmittal Form (Instructor Resources) • Class registration and attendance list(s) • A complete, legible, signed training record form for each attendee • Completed pre- and post-tests • Completed class evaluations • Alphabetical order • Keep copies of training records and post tests as a back up • Send no later than 7 calendar days after the class • Certificates mailed within 2 weeks of class date • Questions?   34. Error in Spanish Manual Page 30, drop spreader should not be used when applying sulfur coated fertilizer. Corrected statement: “Debido a la frágil consistencia de la capa de azufre, muchos de estos productos no deberían ser aplicados con un aplicador de caída libre donde los gránulos caen directamente hacia abajo.”

  36. GI-BMP Online Training • Same content as in-person training (6 hours) • Private computer (not tablets) • At own pace • Cost $15.00 • No CEUs • Two chances to take the test (if not successful needs to take class in-person) • Does not count towards instructor certification gibmp.ifas.ufl.edu

GI-BMP DVD Training • Same content as in-person training (6 hours) • DVD Player (TV or Computer) • At own pace • No Cost for DVD (order form online) • Take the test online ($15 fee), proctored by a GI-BMP Instructor or a pre-authorized CPCO or L&O license holder, or at the local Extension Office (appointment required) • No CEUs • Does not count towards instructor certification gibmp.ifas.ufl.edu

  38. Senior Instructors • GI-BMP certified instructors proficient in GI-BMP subject matters • Considerable training experience • Authorized by FDEP to assist with the training of new instructors • Assist the RC with training new instructors [co-training ]
