  6. Information Society • the Action Plan eEurope, object eGovernment - submission of data to statistical offices • start to develop the electronic system for data collection • project developed by the Romanian Ministry for Communication and Information Technology and RNIS

Information Society Activities done by the RNIS in 2003 • carried out the project started at the end of 2002 - the electronic system for data collection • electronic questionnaire - used by the public administration for IS survey - compulsory • surveys on ICT usage by the enterprise • reference year - 2002 • activities covered by survey - industry, constructions, trade, services, credit institutions, insurance services • survey on Internet Service Providers • new survey - ICT usage by tertiary education

Information Society Legal framework for using the electronic system • Government Ordinance no.19 / January 2003, approved by the Law no.202/May 2003, regarding the obligation of the public institutions to use the electronic system for data collection • Government Decision no.542/May 2003 for methodological aspects regarding the implementation of the electronic system • the electronic system has build to be used next years for other surveys and other categories of respondents

Information Society Indicators collected by the survey • for enterprise • number of PCs, number of servers, of which secured servers, number of PC with Internet connection, number of PC with Internet connection by type of connection, number of specialised person on ICT activities, investments and expenditure for IT products and services, investments and expenditure for communication products and services, incomes and expenditures via Internet

  11. Information Society Some results from the latest publication • the growth rate of the number of ICT skilled persons in 2001 comparative with 1998 • the number of PCs passed double of 1998 in 2001 • the number of PCs connected to the Internet increased four times in 2001

  12. Information Society eEurope indicators for 2001 • percentage of teleworkers ~ 1% • percentage of the enterprises that sell via Internet ~ 1% • percentage of the enterprises that buy via Internet ~ 1% • percentage of the households having Internet connection ~ 3%

Information Society RNSI’s immediate objectives • to develop and harmonise all surveys on IS with the Eurostat and OECD recommendations • to implement the quality criteria for statistical data • relevance • accuracy • timeliness • accessibility and clarity • comparability • coherence • completeness
