We strengthen educational systems, improve skills training and employment services, and build partnerships to reduce inequalities and help youth become leaders in their communities.

  3. OUR VISION WUSC envisions a world where all young people can grow up in safe, secure and supportive environments; where they can learn, work and play a vital role in their country’s development.

  4. We are a Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to providing education, employment and empowerment opportunities for youth around the world.

  5. EDUCATION We strengthen educational systems to improve young people’s access to quality education (primary to tertiary), particularly for girls and refugees. KEEP TCAP

  6. EMPLOYMENT We improve skills training and employment services to increase employability and expand economic opportunities for youth and other marginalized populations. ASSET UNITERRA

  7. EMPOWERMENT We strengthen partnerships, build the capacity of civil society and promote volunteerism to reduce inequalities and help youth to become leaders in their communities. ARI PASME

  8. WHERE WE WORK We are working in over 30 countries.   10. HISTORY • WUSC has worked with and for youth since the 1920s. • Incorporated in 1957 as a non-profit non-governmental organization dedicated to international development through education. • A leading Canadian international development agency with over 65 years of experience.

  17. OUR STRATEGIC PARTNERS Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI) Combats poverty and exclusion by building the development capacities of disadvantaged communities. Farm Radio International Supports over 330 broadcasters to strengthen small-scale farming and rural communities in Africa. The MATCH International Women’s Fund Places the issue of women’s rights and empowerment as central to successful and sustained development in the global South.

  22. WUSC IMPACT ON CAMPUS As Local Committee members, students on Canadian campuses can get involved in any number of interesting campaigns and programs…

  23. WUSC ACTIVITIES: ON CAMPUS AND OVERSEAS … And all of these campaigns and programs are connected with and contributing towards WUSC’s overseas development projects.

  25. EDUCATION: SRP AWARENESS ON CAMPUS OVERSEAS Local Committees are raising awareness and funds to support refugee education above and beyond their campus needs. In refugee camps, students have little to no opportunities to pursue their post-secondary education. WUSC facilitates the resettlement process and access to Canadian universities and colleges.

EMPOWERMENT: SHINE A LIGHT ON CAMPUS OVERSEAS Local Committees are raising awareness and funds to support refugee girls’ education in Malawi camps, using light-themed events, like flashlight mobs. In some refugee camps, boys outnumber girls 4:1 WUSC is providing after school classes and secondary-school scholarships for promising girls. We are shifting now shifting our focus on Malawi.

EMPLOYMENT: UNITERRA SYMPOSIA ON CAMPUS OVERSEAS CANADIAN LOCAL COMMITTEESBy bringing together local experts, returned volunteers, students and faculty, an educational symposium can be a catalyst for action! 2015 Theme: Global Youth Employment. Funding available: up to $500! BURKINABE AND GHANAIAN LOCAL COMMITTEES The WUSC Local Committee Network is global, with active LCs in Burkina Faso, Ghana. International LCs have also organized Symposia events on their campus!

  28. LOCAL COMMITTEE IMPACT Our reach in 2014-2015: + 328 events organized # People Informed: 48,438 # People Engaged: 15,881 Funds Raised: over $37,864.68* (*not counting all SRP funds) Since 2010, LCs have organized over 1250 WUSC events. We have reached over 490,000 people!

  29. THE STUDENT REFUGEE PROGRAM (SRP)

  30. THE SRP • The Student Refugee Program is a refugee resettlement program that enables refugee students to enter Canada as permanent residents and pursue their education at Canadian universities & colleges.

  31. VOLUNTEER OVERSEAS WITH UNITERRA

  32. VOLUNTEER OVERSEAS A WUSC program that offers the ability to apply academic theory and knowledge to a practical work environment in Africa, Asia and South America during an academic term or upon graduation. Check available placements: www.uniterra.ca/swb

VOLUNTEER OVERSEAS: INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR UNITERRA INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR For over 65 years, WUSC’s International Seminar has engaged a group of Canadian students and host country students in a collaborative community project. Local Committees help promote and recruit on campus. This Fall, members can apply or help find our next cohort of Seminar participants! Next Seminar in Summer 2016:Tanzania!

  35. RAISING AWARENESS: RIDE FOR REFUGE 2015 • Cross-Canada walking and cycling event • 2014: 11 WUSC teams raised over $14,000 Join us October 3rd 2015! • Register a new team/join a team • Pick “WUSC/EUMC” as charity • Raise funds online for the SRP! • Walk 5km or cycle 10, 25 or 50!
