  2. AFFIX What is an AFFIX? An AFFIX may be either a PREFIX or a SUFFIX. A PREFIX is added before the base word. A SUFFIX is added after the base word. Affixes often add a syllable to the word. PREFIX + BASE WORD + SUFFIX = RELATED WORD

  3. PREFIX mis- = wrong Keywords: misspell, misunderstand PREFIX re- = back or again Keywords: rewind, review, replay

  4. PREFIXES Dis = apart or not Un = Not Keywords: dislike Keywords: disconnect unhappy, unaware

  5. SUFFIXES • LESS = without Key Words: homeless, harmless • FUL = full of; amount needed to fill. Suffix –ful has 1 letter L! The word “full” has 2! Key words: helpful, harmful

  6. SUFFIX - LY = how, like, or when Key Words: safely, thankfully • ABLE = able to Key Words: adorable, unbelievable

  7. SPELLING WORDS retaking mistreat rebuilding harmless rewinding harmful reviewing helpful unwrapping unhelpful unaware thankfully discovering carelessly disconnect mainly colorless unbelievable misunderstanding bendable
