  1. Hazardous Substance Incident (HSI) Database Conversion Design Phase Presented to IOWAccess Advisory Council July 11, 2007

  2. HSI Database Conversion Work To Date • On March 7, 2007 the IOWAccess Advisory Council awarded IDNR $20,000 for the Planning Phase of the HSI Database Conversion Project. • HSI Database Conversion workgroup began meeting with ITE on April 19th. • Planning Phase complete on June 15th.

  3. HSI Database Conversion Results of Planning Phase • Web application needs laid out and concepts developed. • Use of recently developed code from other IOWAccess projects explored. • Inter-connectivity of HSI application to Iowa One-Stop application explored and concepts developed.

  4. HSI Database Conversion Results of Planning Phase (continued) • Development of end user tool concepts based on surveys of potential end users. • Heartland Emergency Response Exchange (HERE) project connectivity explored.

  5. HSI Database Conversion Design Phase • Develop the web front-end mockups • To insure all the tools are available as planned • To insure the web page is easy to understand and use. • To insure page meets all IT design standards

  6. HSI Database Conversion Design Phase (cont) • Develop database mockups • To insure all necessary elements are included • To insure fields lineup with One-Stop and HERE fields (to insure connectivity) • To insure existing database can be migrated with the least amount of effort.

  7. HSI Database Conversion Design Phase (cont) • Develop report mockups • To insure end users get the information they need most • To insure reports are flexible to accommodate many different types of data requests. • To insure internal reports provide staff with actionable information.

  8. HSI Database Conversion Design Phase (cont) • Inter-connectivity explored, developed, and tested. • Code from other IOWAccess projects reviewed. • Hosting, maintenance, and trouble shooting issues worked out.

  9. HSI Database Conversion We look forward to continuing to work with our partners in ITE to improve the ease and quality of information provided to the public.
