  3. Mrs. Chaconas Room 2Kindergarten • Sign in at the back table. • Write down how your child will come to and from school—bus, car, door, ESS. • I would like to do most of my correspondence through email. Please write your name, child’s name, and email. • My email is: schaconas@lsusd.net

  4. Communication • I will send a weekly email to just touch base on upcoming events.

  6. TECHNOLOGY • iPads • Smartboards • Computers • Technology will be used to enhance our instruction.

  7. Absences • Please verify your child’s absence with a phone call to the office 390-2646. • Let me know in advance if you may miss more than four consecutive days of school. I will set up an Independent Study Contract.

  8. Volunteering • I have a sign up sheet in the back. • You must sign in at the office first. • We will begin parent volunteers after the classes have been set. • Let me know if you would like to assist with: TECHNOLOGY, Art—painting, reading, field trips, etc. • Let me know if you have a special talent that you would like to share.

  9. Birthdays! Sharing! • Your child may send in store-bought cookies to share or a non-food item. • Sharing: Days will be assigned. • Our school is an “Animal Free” zone due to allergies etc.

  10. Appropriate attire • Please send your child in comfortable clothing. • They must have appropriate shoes for the playground. They must be close-toed. (No flip flops, or any backless sandals) • Please mark the clothing, backpacks, and lunchboxes with their names so that they can be returned to them.

  11. Homework Policy • Homework will be begin once the classes are “set.” (Two to three weeks). • Each child should be exposed to print at least fifteen minutes a day. (Your child should READ, or be read to).

Tentative Daily Schedule • 8:57-9:30 Whole Group Reading • 9:30-10:30 Literacy Centers • 10:30-10:50 Recess • 10:50-11:10 Finish Literacy Centers • 11:10-12:00 Modeled Writing/Journal/Spelling/Handwriting/Phonics • 12:00-12:40 Lunch • 12:40-1:15 Read Aloud/Calendar • 1:15-2:00 Math • 2:00-2:30 P.E./Art/Music/Science/Social Studies • 2:30-2:50 Developmental Centers/DEAR/Double Dose/Clean up • 3:00 Dismiss

  14. Letter Drawing • Use your non-dominant hand • Write your name in cursive • Backward • Many students struggle with writing because they are “drawing” their letters. Please practice at home—using fun activities to build up their writing fluency.

  16. Scholastic Book Clubs • The PTA has book fairs at our school to assist our families in purchasing quality books at a low price. • Our classroom sends home book order forms to purchase books. These orders allow the individual teacher to purchase books for the classroom. (Books make GREAT gifts!) • Scholastic.com

  17. What to bring? • Headphones (not ear buds)in a labeled plastic baggie. • Snack—separately packaged and marked SNACK • Lunch--if they are bringing. • Extra clothing—in case of accidents. (Let me know if there may be an issue).
