  1. Topic Presentation:Image Mapping Critique ofCinerama to Present Carlos Garley 3/6/2014

  2. Cinerama Image Mapping • The 3 projectors map 3 films on three panels that are a curved screen made up thousands of blinds with 7 stereophonic channels. • Cinerama at Seattle’s Cinerama owned by Paul Allen is one of the last Cineramas including Pacific Theater’s Archlight Cinerama Dome in California. • David Strohmaier is one of the newest filmmakers to use Cinerama.

  3. Cinerama Theater • Seattle Cinerama on 2100 4th avenue is owned by Paul Allen who rebuilt(1999) the old Martin Cinerama theater from 1963. It could show original 3 panel film on 90 foot long by 30 ft high 2,000 strips for reflecting light. The theater offers 4k, 3D, and other 70mm film experiences.

  4. Cinerama Camera • The Cinerama camera recorded 3 separate 35mm films of 50 horizontally and 55 vertically and 7 stereophonic audio for an 146 x 55 overlapped by 2 panoramic image that was 600% larger than other widescreen films.

  5. Cinerama Projection • The 120 degrees and the 13 degrees flat. The three projectors mapped widescreen arc of 146 the human field of vision. The original was 26 fps on venetian blinds. Certain Cinerama theatres had to be built. Single film process as well as 70mm showings.

  6. Cinerama History • Fred Waller- Created 11 projector Vitarama, 360 still camera, and 5 camera Waller Gunner Trainer by 1952. • 50 years since last Cinerama camera film production.

  7. Cinerama Art • This is Cinerama (1952) • Seven Wonders of the World (1956) • How The West Was Won (1962) • Cinerama Adventure (2002) • In the Picture (2012)

  8. Current Work • David Strohmaier (2002) (2012) • Used Cinerama Camera • ON CINERAMA ADVENTURE: • This enjoyable film brings it all back. First of all, it tells the story of Cinerama itself, how it was developed, and how the films were made under the most treacherous conditions – in some cases at the cost of human lives. Cinerama Adventure also gives you a sense of what this wonderful technology was like, how it felt to walk into a theater, sit down and see those remarkable, 3-paneled images. • Martin Scorsese, • Motion Picture Producer, Director

  9. Conclusion • I would use the three film cinerama camera with added effects on each lens as well as making video that interacts with the 3 projectors. • Making use of cinerama art could be important for image mapping for theaters.
