  11. On Comprehension What does it mean to understand? Too often, we think of comprehension as: Answering questions Retelling Teaching Comprehension Strategies Is this definition worthy of our students’ intellectual capacity? Are we teaching comprehension or are we testing comprehension? What does it mean to understand deeply? What are the indicators that we understand deeply? Rubric Discussion-

  12. On One Pagers • The grammar / editing of the 4th grade writing test weighs 60% of the STAAR test. • We have an increased focus on this for K-5 in the word work matrix. • We need to expect greater levels of accountability here!

  19. MISD ELAR • A Focus on Figure 19: • In grades 3-5 we have frontloaded all of the figure 19 comprehension strategies in Q1. • In K-2 we spiral these throughout the year. • We have a rubric to support the highest development of these critical reading skills.
