(Furs and forest) • Because they weren’t on the land, the English began to move in and settle. • This would lead to the American Revolution

  17. A New Slavery was “born” see pg 126-27 for reference • Thousands of workers needed in the new world • A “new slavery” developed. One based on color not just capture. • Slaves became property that could be bought and sold (like livestock or furniture) –this is called chattel property. • It stayed a legal trade until 1808. the Brits outlawed it completely. The U.S. outlawed IMPORT of slaves but the trade continued within the states. • It was an evil, inhumane, dark period of history.
