  3. Exercise • Weight Control • Physical activity burns calories • The more intense the activity is, the more calories are burned • Calories can be burned even with the simplest of household chores

  4. Exercise • Fights Diseases • Physical activity can help prevent numerous diseases • Some include heart disease, high blood pressure and type two diabetes

  5. Exercise • Improves Mood • Just thirty minutes of exercise a day can help • Physical activity stimulates brain chemicals that can help you feel better • This also leads to a positive boost of self-esteem

  6. Exercise • Boosts Energy • Physical activity improves muscle strength and boosts endurance • Also exercising delivers oxygen and nutrients throughout the body • This helps the body work more efficently

  7. Nutrition • Improved Energy • Healthy carbohydrates include fruits, vegetables and whole grains • By eating these it helps keep energy levels stable because it takes longer to break down • Example of a good breakfast could be oatmeal with fruit

  8. Nutrition • Weight Control • For one not to gain weight they must burn the same amount of calories that they eat • High calorie foods, such as fast food, lead to weight gain

  9. Nutrition • Weight Control • Nutrient dense foods lead to a smaller caloric intake • Nutrient dense foods would include whole grains, fruits, vegetables and lean proteins

  10. Nutrition • Reduced Diabetes Risk • Eating numerous refined carbohydrates can lead to diabetes • Whole grains contain vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals that lower the risk of type 2 diabetes

  11. Nutrition • Reduced Diabetes Risk • Increasing polyunsaturated fats helps reduce the chance of getting type 2 diabetes • Decreasing saturated fats helps as well

  12. Nutrition • Healthy Brain • Lowering cholesterol and saturated fats can reduce risk of Alzheimer's • Mono and polyunsaturated fats improve cholesterol levels • This leads to better protection of brain cells

  13. Sleep • Improved Memory • During sleep memories are strengthened • Also skills you learned when awake are strengthened

  14. Sleep • Disease Prevention • Studies show people who get fewer than six hours of sleep a night are at risk for diseases • These diseases include heart disease, stroke and premature aging

  15. Sleep • Increased Energy • Studies show increased sleep helps athletic performance • College athletes who slept ten hours a night showed greater energy levels

  16. Sleep • Improved Grades • People who sleep more hours learn in school easier • Studies show ten out of 16 kids that slept less had more trouble focusing in school

  17. Sleep • Weight Loss • People who sleep more lose more fat when dieting • Also people who slept less would lose more muscle mass • People would also feel hungrier more often

  18. Sleep • Weight Loss • Sleep and metabolism are controlled by the same part of the brain • When a person is tired, hormones are released • These hormones increase a persons appetite
