Poetry Portfolios  • Grading: • Each missing poem: minus10 points • Each incomplete poem: minus 5-10 points • Complete poems = • √- 8 points • √ 9 points • √+ 10 points • Due in class on Friday, November 30. • Have a neat final draft of each of the eleven poems. • Cover = extra credit • Place a small  in the bottom right corner of each poem you want graded (10 of 11).

Poetry Portfolio 2012 • Personification Poem – From September 17, 2012, choose an object and have it interact with a place. • Metaphor Poem – From September 24, 2012, using words from a food list, describe yourself using food metaphors (or another comparison) that is at least 12 lines long. • “I Am” Poem – From October 22, 2012, you write about the characteristics, curiosities, sounds, sights, desires, etc. of your imagination. • Allusion Poem – From November 2, 2012, use slang names for people and things to construct a four-line rhyming poem using your own voice. • “How I Learned…” A poem based on a classmate's "How I learned to...." story that is at least 14 lines long and in the first person • “How He/She Learned…” - A poem based on your own "How I learned to...." story that is at least 14 lines long in the third person • "Kidnap Poem" From November 13, Nikki Giovanni's "Kidnap Poem" using puns • “Me Against the World” An original version of Tupac’s song, from November 19. • Alliteration Poem – Write an original poem describing your day using different alliterative sounds in each stanza/section of the day. The poem should be between five and eight stanzas with at least four lines per stanza, from November 20. • “Daily” – Use a list of sounds, tastes, smells, and sights to create a catalog poem. • Inspiration Poem – A poem inspired by one of the poems of study this unit.
