  2. Glossary triage [tree-ahzh] –noun 1. the process of sorting victims, as of a battle or disaster, to determine medical priority in order to increase the number of survivors. 2. the determination of priorities for action in an emergency.

  3. Health Care Workers • Provide care for patients. ex: triage the patient, pre-post operative care, surgery, drug administration, rehabilitation… • Work together with other healthcare teams to cure the patient ex: (nurses/doctors/physio/pharmacy as well as other healthcare teams all work together to ensure optimal care is given to the patient)

  4. Health Care Workers • Protect the patient ex: Safe environment - free from needles, patient’s dignity is always maintained, handwashing, patient’s personal safety is always maintained – bedside rails up, right drug administration… • Teach the patient and family ex: explain procedures to the patient before they are carried out, explain pre-post operative care and expectations, how to self-administer medication at home…

Health Care Workers • Coordinate care for the patient ex: Nurses work with all healthcare teams to ensure that the patient’s care plan is clear and therefore receives quality care at all times. • Advocate for the patient ex: supporting a patient, speaking up on their behalf, interceding when necessary, ensuring that quality care is always a top priority…
