  1. Mrs. Anna Ward James Martin MS Vaccinations

  2. Do Now!!! Page 23 • Vaccination: It’s your immune system’s job to fight sicknesses and illnesses. A vaccine will fool your body into thinking that it has been infected by a certain germ. By doing this your body builds up immunity to the sickness that you’ve gotten a vaccine or shot for, despite that fact that you never really had that sickness.

  3. Brainstorm: • What experiences have you had with infectious diseases? • Why do you think we vaccinate? • What do you think would happen if there was a problem with the measles vaccination and we could no longer vaccinate against the disease?

  4. Why is this important? • A Note card activity

  5. Brain Pop: Vaccinations • http://www.brainpop.com/health/diseasesinjuriesandconditions/vaccines/preview.weml

  6. How do vaccinations and antibodies work? • An activity

  7. Jigsaw some common childhood vaccinations • Each group will receive a CDC sheet on a vaccination. Most vaccinations contain more than one disease. • Each person in the group should number off 1, 2, 3, 4, 5…

  8. You will need to write out the answers on a sheet of paper. • Label the name of your vaccination. • What diseases does it cover? • Three facts why this disease is bad and needs to be prevented. • What side effects can the person have from receiving the shot?
