Bounded Ethicality • Bazerman • “Bounded Ethicality” – the systematic and predictable psychological processes that lead people to engage in ethically questionable behaviors that are inconsistent with their own preferred ethics. • Omission bias – less guilty about harms caused by inaction • Demands of the work place allow System 1 thinking (intuitive) to take over and biases to be operational

  3. Some Problems • Over claiming Credit • Implicit Attitudes • The psychology of conflict of interest Class work – discuss one of the above, Explain to the class what the issue is, give an example from the book and give your own example.

Homework • Assignment – Read “Bounded Ethicality” by Bazerman. • Click on Demonstration and Research and take two or more tests at https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/ • 2 page paper, define ethical and give two strategies to guard against bounded ethicality. Include an analysis of how biases can affect “Bounded Ethicality” and how the Harvard site sheds light on this issue. • “Pulaski’s Soup” Six Step, Use Urgent/Critical Matrix in analysis
