  1. Common DCS hardware FV

  2. General ideas • Centralized system: • Common computers. Detector dedicated computers (with detector participation) only in case of un-proportionally heavy load • Common infrastructure • The boundary of responsibility between a detector and the DCS teams is an “intelligent unit”: a power supply, ELMB, etc.. • Use “off the shelf” solutions: • ELMBs for analogues measurement • PLCs for digital I/O • CAEN and ISEG HV power supplies • WIENER electronics crates and LV power supplies • High availability and reliability • Industrial equipment, redundancy and spare parts easy access • UPS for PCs and analog measurements (lifetime at least ½ hour) VF

  3. Layout VF

  4. Computers - 1 • Two levels computer structure • High computer power supervision station • Many slots front-end computers • Supervision PC • Location: PC farm room was chosen because of availability of the network in case of a power cut (alternative place was the CCC farm area) • Model: we will try to follow the PC farm team choice • Common maintenance contract • Spare parts • Eventual reinforcement with a redundant power supply and hard disk VF

  5. Computers - 2 • Front-end PCs: KISS 4U PCI-760 • The model is extensively used by BE/CO in the accelerator control • The PCs are covered by BE/CO maintenance and support contact with KONTRON • Main PC parameters: • Processor: Core 2 Duo E6400 • Backplane • 1 PCI_e x16 • 4 PCI_e x 1 • 7 PCI 32 Bit • Memory: 4GB DDR2 • Redundant HD: STOR-1 2x500GB • PSU: Redundant 2x 300W • Two units are purchased and under evaluation VF

  6. Front-end PCs : KISS 4U PCI-760 • Redundant power supply 2x 300W AC • Redundant STOR-1 2x500GB HDD VF

  7. Infrastructure: CAN buses • ELMBs • PC interface: KvaserPCIcan 4xHS card (4 procured) • CERN CAN power supply (procured): • 2 crates (8 modules per crate) • 10 modules + 8 rear panels (2 channels per module) • this cover up to 16 lines • WIENER crates and power supplies • PC interface: KvaserPCIcan card • ISEG HV power supplies • PC interface: Peak PCAN-PCI Two Channel card • Cables: • thick cables down to the area • thin cables dispatched to the sub-detectors VF

  8. Infrastructure: Ethernet (Alberto) Alberto: “slow control Ethernet devices can be connected to the same switches as the other devices: my plan is to isolate them in a dedicated vlan”. VF
