Education and training of traffic management staff at TMC / Copenhagen, Denmark The TMC - the mode of operation • One centre, four offices • Helsinki, Turku, Tampere, Oulu • One office has responsibility over a large geographical area • Every area has its own characteristics • Helsinki (Uusimaa region) • Metropolitan area • Turku (Turku and Vaasa regions) • Swedish speaking, coastal area • Tampere (Häme, Kaakkois-Suomi, Keski-Suomi and Savo-Karjala regions) • Interior Finland, Russian border • Oulu (Oulu and Lappi regions) • Northern Finland • Works efficiently as a network

Education and training of traffic management staff at TMC / Copenhagen, Denmark Training and education of the TMC staff • learning-phase of new operators more than 3 months • basic sessions with dedicated specialists • more in-depth as skills develop and experience grows • mostly "learning by doing" with other operators • education sessions for new VMS systems • local training sessions arranged • tunnel systems are a big challenge  live training interface(s) ! • the use of "pioneers" • 1-2 operators / office attend sessions common to all offices • pioneers share information further at local offices • 2 annual (spring/autumn) education meetings for TMC staff • attendance by max. 2/3 of operators

Education and training of traffic management staff at TMC / Copenhagen, Denmark Training and education of the TMC staff • national TMC-Intranet contains ”code of practices” and guidelines • special education courses are being arranged • web-based (Internet courses)  suitable for 24/7 organisations • language teaching (Swedish / English) • customer service related training (e.g. telephone conduct) • training for media performance (radio, television) • etc. … • recruitment of new staff • inside Finnra  public administration  open job advertisement • currently no regulatory tests of the staff are carried out • for the future there is a need (e.g. tunnel systems)
