Implemented ProjectsFlex TOC Validated Practice 00-04 – Minimum Pavement Thickness for Superpave Design: Verified Layer thicknesses in 460.3.2 were appropriate. 05-07 – Guidance for Rubbilization: Current Guidelines were verified. Change in Practice 45-98–Field and Lab Evaluation of FAA: Table 460-2 in specifications changed to include the statement that FAA values are for design, not construction. 00-06 – Temperature Density Relationship of HMA: Density criteria in Section 460.3 were modified. 07-22 - Overlay Design Procedures for Flexible Pavements: Analysis tool and modification to FDM 14-10-30 to increase reliability of overlay design (AASHTO ’93 method).

Validated Practice 45-16 – Field Measurement of W/C Ratio for PCC Phase II: No proposed methods were feasible for acceptance of field W/C as a pay item. 05-01 – Effects of GGBFS in PCC – Expanded Study: Recommendations consistent with current mix design specifications. Change in Practice 00-08 – Wet Pavements Crash Study of Longitudinal and Transverse Tined PCC: Std. Spec Section 415.3.11 allows long. tining on some pavements. 01-04 – Early Opening of PCC Pavements to Traffic: CP Tech Team allowed contractor to request early opening. Implemented ProjectsRigid TOC

Change in Practice 03-16 – Evaluation of Methods for Characterizing Air Void Systems in WI for PCC: Concept implemented, however a more sophisticated piece of equipment used by WisDOT. 05-05 – Analysis of Concrete Pavement Joints to Predict the Onset of Distress: Modifications were made to specs related to joint spacing (415.3.9) and reinforcement (415.3.8). Implemented ProjectsRigid TOC (continued) Damaged dowel bar showing ineffectiveness of epoxy coating

  22. Validated Practice 00-13 – Evaluation of Bridge Approach Settlement Mitigation Methods: Report validated current WisDOT methods and provided some alternatives. Cost comparison is needed before alternative methods are pursued. Change in Practice 02-01 – Determination of Influence on Support Strength of CABC Due to Gradational, Regional, and Source Variations: Values for material properties and resilient modulus CABC from sources around the state are being used to support implementation of MEPDG. Implemented ProjectsGeotech TOC

Change in Practice 00-15– Non-Destructive Testing of Highway Bridge Structures for Purposes of Structural Evaluation: Manual providing overview and guidance was distributed to state bridge inspectors. 00-17 – Assessment and Rehabilitation Strategies/Guidelines to Maximize Service Life of Concrete Structures: Two technologies provided in the research report have been incorporated into the Bridge Inspection Manual. 02-14b – Rapid Strengthening of Concrete Bridges: Study provided rehab for limited use. Regional engineers are aware of technology, but it was omitted from the Bridge Manual because it is not widely used. Implemented ProjectsStructures TOC

  24. Change in Practice 03-10– Integrated Field and Office Tools for Bridge Management: Technology was implemented during the research. Tablet PCs were found to be a more efficient way to track data and integrate it into the bridge management system. 04-13 – Reducing Shrinkage Cracking of Structural Concrete Through the use of Admixtures: Research led to investigation of other methods of reinforcement which have been used in the field. Also motivation for FY 09 Deck Cracking Study. 04-14– Health Monitoring of Bridge Structures and Components Using Smart-Structure Technology: Structural Health Monitoring on Bridges is used in special cases.
