  1. Scary Facts about the Pet Food Industry

  2. Scary Facts About The Pet Food Industry It may surprise you, but not all pet food has your dog’s best interest at heart. Many commercial dog food brands are fueling a destructive and deceitful industry, putting pets at risk. Here are a few scary facts you must know about the Petfood Industry before feeding your pet.

  3. Pet Obesity Epidemic Recent studies indicate that 9 out of 10 pet owners don’t know the amount of calories their pets should be consuming. Pet food brands are selling low quality fats and highly calorie foods without stipulated quantity being mentioned on the labels. Often, the quality of the ingredients is so low that huge amounts of sugar and salt are added to mask the taste. Despite obesity among dogs being a huge concern, there are very limited regulations being imposed for ethical sourcing or full disclosure on the labels.

  4. False And Misleading Pet Food Product Labels Various pet food brands are guilty of incorrect nutritional claims, often implying that the product will treat a disease when the product does not contain an approved drug cleared to treat that disease. Misrepresenting an ingredient, using an incorrect name or including an ingredient which is not approved for use in the specific pet food is also common. Misleading facts does a disservice to customers because they cannot make reasonable, informed decisions about what they are about to feed their pets.

  5. Pet Foods Are Filled With Artificial Preservatives Many pet food brands sell products filled with chemicals such as Ethoxyquin, Propylene Glycol, which are dangerous to pets. These are chemical preservatives that allow commercial pet food to have a prolonged life and stay on store shelves for longer. In fact, almost all of these have been banned for human consumption due to their links with cancer, yet are still being used in abundance in pet food.

  6. Rawhides Rawhide treats are made using the inner layer of cow and horse hide which is often procured from tanneries as by-products of the meat and leather industry. Often, these chews contain heavy traces of toxic chemicals. These can be so dangerous that even humans are at a risk of being infected by dangerous bacteria from just being in contact with these treats. Rawhide bones and other edible chews pose a choking and blockage risk among dogs. Yet, rawhide is often considered the most popular treat among dogs and there are no serious regulations imposed to correct the situation.

  7. Responsible Companies A responsible brand will always sell what it promises. Honest claims, sustainable sourcing and natural ingredients are the true marks of a trustworthy and ethics based dog food company.
