  4. History of Baseball • Began in the early 1800’s • Alexander Joy Cartwright invented baseball • 1846- First recorded baseball game, Hoboken NJ • 1869- Cincinnati Red Stockings first pro team • 1876- Major league was formed

Football Basic Rules and Equipment Rules • 11 players from each team play • Field 100 yards long • College- Four 12 minute quarters • NFL- Four 15 minute quarters • Four downs to get a first down • First down every ten yards • Touchdown=Six points • Extra point= One point • Field goal-=Three points Equipment • Helmet • Mouth piece • Shoulder Pads • Cleats • Thigh and knee pads • Football • Uniform

History of Football • Football started out as rugby • Brought to the US in 1869 • Walter camp created modern football • 1920- More than 10 pro teams • 1933- First NFL championship game • 1966- NFL and AFL emerged • NFL began in 1970 • The NFC and AFC were then created -National Football Conference -American Football Conference

  9. My Personal Experience Started playing at age 12 Played rec council till I was 15 Played in a tournament in Virginia Played in high school for three years Played in college for two years

  10. Awards and Accomplishments Accomplishments • All Star team at age 13 • Played on a travel team • Undefeated season when I was 12 • Won a championship Awards • First team All-Conference(2003) • First team All-Group IV(2003) • Second team All-County(2003)

Basketball Rules and Equipment Rules • Five players from each team play • Scoring - Two points inside three point line - Three points outside three point line - Foul shot is worth one point • College- Two 20 minute halves • Pro- Four 12 minute quarters • Fouls- Blocking, charging, holding, hacking • Five fouls - Player is out of the game Equipment • Basketball • Basket • Shoes • Uniform

  12. History of Basketball • James Naismith Invented Basketball in 1891 • Born in 1961 • First Game -Played with a soccer ball - Two peach baskets used as goals • 1936- Introduced in the Berlin Olympics

  13. MY personal Experience • Started playing at age 6 • Selected as an all-star three times • Played travel basketball • Played organized basketball for 12 years • Played one year in junior high • Played one year in high school

SoccerRules and equipment Rules • Each team plays 11 players • Dimensions: • 90 to 120 meters long • 45 to 90 meters wide • Two halves:45 minutes each • Different types of kicks -Free kick- Start and restart of play -Penalty kick- Defender commits foul inside the 18 -Corner kick – Ball passes over defending player goal line -Goal kick- Direct free kick Equipment • Soccer ball • Soccer Net • Cleats • Shin Guards • Uniform

  15. History of soccer • No exact date when soccer started • Has been played for over 3000 years • Britain is the birthplace for soccer • Standard rules were established in 1815 • First international match was in 1872

  16. My personal experience • Started playing at age eight • Made the all-star team • Played travel soccer for four years • Stopped playing soccer at age 12

Hockey Rules and Equipment Rules • Five players from each team play • Three 20 minutes periods • Five minute sudden death overtime period - Shoot out if nobody scores in overtime • Penalties - Two minutes and Five minutes • Must use stick to score goal Equipment • Helmet • Skates • Shoulder pads • Arm pads • Gloves • Leg pads • Puck • Stick • Net • Mouth piece

  18. History of Hockey • Hockey began over 4000 years ago • Around from the time of early civilization • Earliest known ball and stick game to exist • First NHL season was in 1917-1918 • League began with five teams • Olympic debut in 1908 in London

  20. History of softball • Originated In Chicago on Thanksgiving 1887 • First women’s team formed in 1895 • George Hancock formed the rules • 1900’s leagues and tournaments began
