  3. Engineering Mechanics Institute 2011 Northeastern University, Boston, MA June 2-4, 2011 Mindlin Medal The Raymond D. Mindlin Medal recognizes outstanding research contributions to applied solid mechanics. ASCE membership is not a requirement Leon M. Keer, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE, NAE is awarded the 2011 Raymond D. Mindlin Medal, “for his outstanding contributions in research on the life prediction of materials in the vicinity of high stress concentrations and development of novel methods and solutions related to contact, fracture and wave propagation in solids.” Mindlin Medal Leon M. Keer

  4. Engineering Mechanics Institute 2011 Northeastern University, Boston, MA June 2-4, 2011 Scanlan Medal The Robert H. Scanlan Medal recognizes distinguished achievement in engineering mechanics based upon scholarly contributions to both theory and practice. The areas of achievement will generally be structural mechanics, wind engineering and aerodynamics. YozoFujino, Ph.D., M.ASCE University of Tokyo, is awarded the 2011 Robert H. Scanlan Medal “for his contributions to the advancement of aerodynamics and dynamics, control, and health monitoring of bridges.” Scanlan Medal       YozoFujino

  5. Engineering Mechanics Institute 2011 Northeastern University, Boston, MA June 2-4, 2011 2010 Biot Medal The Maurice A. Biot Medal was established to recognize the lifetime achievement of Dr. Maurice A. Biot and is awarded to an individual who has made outstanding research contributions to the mechanics of porous materials. Ph.D., Imperial College London, is awarded the 2010 Maurice A. Biot Medal, “for his outstanding contributions in applying poroelasticity to rock mechanics and flow in fractured media.” Biot Medal  Robert W. Zimmerman

  6. Engineering Mechanics Institute 2011 Northeastern University, Boston, MA June 2-4, 2011 2011 Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize Established to recognize notable achievements in research related to civil engineering. ErtugrulTaciroglu, Ph.D., M.ASCE, University of California, is awarded the 2011 Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize “for research in solid and structural mechanics, with emphasis on soil-structure interaction, system identification and multi-scale modeling and simulation.” ErtugrulTaciroglu

  7. Engineering Mechanics Institute 2011 Northeastern University, Boston, MA June 2-4, 2011 2011 EMI Leonardo da Vinci Award Established to recognize outstanding young investigators early in their careers for promising ground-breaking developments in the field of Engineering Mechanics and Mechanical Sciences as relevant to Civil Engineering, understood in the broadest sense. Markus J. Buehler, Ph. D., Aff.M.ASCE, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is presented the 2011 EMI Leonardo da Vinci Award “for his pioneering research in the integration of atomistic simulation with methods of continuum mechanics, applied to the multi-scale modeling of the structure and mechanical behavior of biological and protein based materials." Markus Buehler

  8. Engineering Mechanics Institute 2011 Northeastern University, Boston, MA June 2-4, 2011 2010 ASCE Associate Editor Award The Associate Editor Award recognizes associate editors who have provided consistent and exemplary service to a particular journal or practice periodical or who have made a substantial unique contribution to the enhancement of ASCE’s publication activities.  George Z. Voyiadjis, D.Eng., F.ASCE, Louisiana State University,is presented with ASCE’s Associate Editor Award. His research focuses on the damage mechanics of metals, metal matrix composites, and ceramics, with emphasis on theoretical modeling, numerical simulation of material behavior, and experimental correlations. Voyiadjis has more than 220 peer-reviewed journal articles and 17 books to his credit. He served as an associate editor of ASCE’s Journal of Engineering Mechanics from 1997 to 1999 and has been serving in that capacity since 2005.  George Z. Voyiadjis
