  1. Financial Risks and Other Consequences For Drug Abuse Over the past several decades, continued drug abuse has resulted in increasing financial risks and various other consequences for people all over the world. One of the most significant risks comes in the form of drug and alcohol testing, which frequently can occur at one’s place of employment or residence. This drug test can either happen initially at the time of hire as part of the interview screening process or be randomized one or more times throughout one’s job as a condition of ongoing employment. If the abuser happens to arouse suspicion at work, the test may not be ransomed but specifically targeted to them. If they wish to continue in their job or line of work, refusing such a test may not be an option. If drug abuse is revealed at work through such drug testing, the loss of employment can be a huge consequence. Urine drug test cups may be small in size and not terribly scary to many people, but to frequent drug users and abusers they are, in fact, incredibly scary due to the crushing consequences they can bring about. The financial consequences have already been touched upon, but they pale in comparison to the much more serious legal consequences of being caught through drug testing kits. The damaging results that come from drug test cups can have enormous negative impact on court cases involving child custody and other lawsuits. For those involved in the medical profession with important licenses to maintain, revealed drug abuse can permanently ruin careers and render totally useless years of schooling and tens of thousands of dollars in educational costs. Often times in these types of professions there is no possible recourse or path back to restored licensure once drug abuse is revealed through testing, particularly for those involved in prescribing, handling or dispensing controlled medications to patients. To many medical boards, trust that is broken is unable to be restored. For many drug abusers, such drug testing can destroy lives, both those of the abusers and their family and friends and may serve as enough of a deterrent to sway the druggie in question away from abusing drugs entirely.
