  1. Challenges and Solutions for Broadband WirelessandWireless/Wireline Convergence April 2007 Adi Regev AVP, Sales Development

  2. Challenges in Convergence • Delivering multimedia services across fixed and mobile accesses. • Augmenting multimedia services – including voice, pictures, text and video - to existing services. • Utilizing and reusing a common core and control, to the fixed, mobile and cable communities. • Preserve quality and interoperability of telecoms with the quick and innovative development of the Internet. • Mixing-and-matching equipment and applications from multiple vendors • Handle non-standardized services in a standardized way – ensuring the interoperability, access awareness, policy support, charging, security and quality of service functionality • Interworking with existing networks • Enabling users to enjoy converged multiple services regardless of access network and device (access-independent) • Enabling mobile users to access their personal set of services wherever they roam, whichever operator network they are connected to.

  3. The Magic Potion… IMS

  4. IMSin a Nutshell • The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) standard defines a generic architecture for offering Voice over IP and multimedia services. • International standard specified by the 3GPP/3GPP2 being embraced ETSI/TISPAN. • Supports multiple access types • GSM, WCDMA, CDMA2000, Wireline broadband access and WLAN. • For Users • Enable person-to-person and person-to-content communications – including voice, text, pictures and video. • For Operators • Defines a horizontal architecture - service enablers and common functions can be reused for multiple applications. • Specifies interoperability and roaming, and provides bearer control, charging and security. • Well integrated with existing voice and data networks - makes IMS a key enabler for fixed-mobile convergence.

  5. IMSin a Nutshell • Enables services to be delivered in a standardized, well-structured way. • Provides a future-proof architecture • Simplifies and speeds up the service creation and provisioning process • …while enabling legacy interworking. • For fixed and mobile operators there are benefits of introducing the IMS architecture todayOn longer term, IMS enables a secure migration path to an all-IP architecture that will meet end-user demands for new enriched services. IMS becomes a preferred solution for fixed and mobile operators’ multimedia business.

  6. A Simplified IMS Converged Network (Service Focus)

  7. Simplified view of the IMS architecture

  8. IMS Layers • The Application/Service layer • Comprises application and content servers to execute services for the user. • Generic service enablers are implemented as services in a SIP Application Server (AS). • The Control layer • Comprises network control servers for managing call or session set-up, modification and release. • The most important – the CSCF (Call Session Control Function), also known as a SIP server. • Contains a full suite of support functions - provisioning, charging and operation & management (O&M). • Interworking with other operators’ networks and or other types of networks is handled by border gateways. • Media Resource Function (MRF) – Control and Process Media Stream • The Access/Trasport layer • Comprises routers and switches, both for the backbone and the access network

  9. RADVISION offering in IMS

  10. SCOPIA Interactive Video Platform • The Interactive Video Platformis designed to enable: • Rapid multiple video service creation on a single platform to ensure future-proof for investment protection (IMS ready) • Scalable growth from trial to servicing thousands of subscribers • Enhancement of the visual communications experience with advanced video processing capabilities • Seamless integration with back-end systems • Connectivity to any network and device Quick, Efficient, Flexible and Future Proof

  11. IVP - Detailed Architecture Legend MCU – Multipoint Conference Unit MSP – Media Streaming Proxy B2BUA – SIP Back to Back User Agent

  12. The API – V2XML over HTTP • The Interactive Video Platform behaves like a browser – it issues a HTTP GET request and fetches a V2XML page • Pages can be static, or dynamic - written with standard web technologies such as cgi, asp, jsp, php etc. • Caller ID & other parameters are passed in the HTTP request – application can use it for database access, personalization etc.

  13. What can be controlled with V2XML? • Call control • Make calls, answer/reject calls • Called ID, presentation/restriction • Handle audio/video channel connections • Conferencing • Connect between sessions • Media control • Video & audio playback (files, announcements, RTSP) • Audio & video recording • VCR controls (pause, resume, skip) • DTMF detection & generation, digit collection • Video layout control, map video to regions, mute/unmute • Text overlaid on the video

  14. Applications Architecture in IVP • Administrator Web • Configuration • Provisioning Web Server App GUI • User Web • Conf control • Self provisioning App Policies M-Learning Portal 3G Conf Comm Chat VRBT Web Applications Server J2EE AS SIP Interactive Video Platform RTP

  15. Three categories of available applications • Live Interactive Visual Communications • Mobile Videoconferencing • Mobile Communities • M-learning • Surveillance • Content Access • Video Portal • 3GTubing • Network and Call Center solutions • Video Ringback Clip • iCONTACT

  16. Mobile communities and Video Chat • Moderated video communities allow members to enjoy video communities on any fixed-mobile video enabled device • The moderator has complete control of the community • Invite the VIP or guest speaker • Control the video layout • Allow a member to speak • Stream live or stored video into the session • Members can request to speak via their handset’s key pad • Integration with back end systems

  17. Great User Experience: Entering a video community session Dial Service No. *155

  18. The moderator’s screen and interaction

  19. Mobile Video m-learning • Remote m-Learning brings the classroom to anyone with a fixed-mobile video enabled device • Students can request to speak via their handset’s key pad • The professor has complete control of the community • Control the video layout • Allow a student to speak • Integration with back end systems

  20. M-learning, Student interaction Student can ask a question Indication to Professor that Student requests to speak Professor can mute and unmute

  21. Mobile Videoconferencing • Intuitively start or join a spontaneous or planned video conference from your mobile phone with an interactive video IVR • Enjoy a wide range of conference control options from your 3G mobile key pad • Personalized settings including default layouts, phonebooks, waiting room clips and more • Integration with back end systems • API available for customization and integration

  22. Video Portal • Content retrieval and access to multiple visual communication services • Easily access a central video portal • Navigate with keypads to the desired service • Control a surveillance camera • Bi-directional video services with picture in picture, text overlays, multiple views and more… • Live or recorded video content

  23. Join the VideoMojo Contest ! • Bring your own Mojo to the world of visual communications. • Submit your unique idea – one that you believe will shake up and impact the communications arena . • RADVISION will host the VideoMojo enabling you to develop and deploy compelling video applications. • When?Official registration and idea submission: -> July 2007Initial screening of participants: August 2007Training, development and testing: September 2007Announcement of contest winner: TBD
