A course for patients to conduct research with patients. • Text: Grey Matters (Marlett, Emes, 2010) a University of Calgary Open Access publication. • Format: small group instruction (on line or in person) with a mentor, use online materials to learn research by doing research. • Year 1: Learn to do field work, questionnaires and surveys, focus groups and interviews • Year 2: Design a study, write it for funding, carry it out and write it up for publication.

  4. Are you? • Curious about how things work or how to make things better? • Able to devote time and energy to learn something new? •  Interested in making a difference in Health Care? • Concerned about being healthy despite arthritis? •  Looking to meet people who are interested in research?

  5. What can you do after your education? • Get involved in the patient engagement movement in Canada. • Join local and provincial research or planning committees. • Design and administer patient satisfaction surveys for doctors, specialists, hospitals or rehab programs. • Conduct focus groups. • Interview as part for research projects. • Mentor others who want to learn about research. • Join or lead other community research projects.

  6. Information meeting • Nov. 2nd, Southport • 10-12: Awareness session outlining the course and the resources • 12-1: Lunch with sponsors and staff of the project • 1-2: Recruitment and join a research group
