Overview • An individual-level based intervention • Core Components: • Peer Navigation • Client sessions related to 7 topics regarding linkage and retention to care. • Topic 1: Linkage to Medical Care • Topic 2: Review of First Medical Appointment • Topic 3: HIV Medical Adherence • Topic 4: Engagement with and Retention to Medical Care • Topic 5: Impact of HIV-related and Other Stigmas on Treatment Adherence • Topic 6: Sexual Behaviors and the Risk of HIV Transmission • Topic 7: Transition to Self Managed Medical Care Navigation • Client advocacy with medical providers (e.g., case conferencing, consultations with medical staff) • Medical accompaniments • Referrals to other services

  5. Evaluation Staff • Evaluator: Frank Galvan, PhD • Statistical Evaluation Manager: Ying-Tung (Terryl) Chen, MS • Data management Specialist/Program interviewer: Lizbeth Rivas

  6. Monitoring Fidelity • Individual sessions between LC/PN and participant will be monitored by other LC/PN • Sessions will be reviewed with program manager • Monitor six of the first 10 sessions and then continue to monitor on a quarterly bases

  7. Transnational Approach Strategies • Incorporation of Mexican cultural components based off their effects on medical care • Personalismo, machismo, Religiosity, Familismo, Fatalism • In one-on-one sessions address: social supports, relationship with family, cultural beliefs and how these can effect medical adherence • Discuss participants past medical experience in regard to their acculturated & assimilated identities • Stay up to date on Mexican cultural issues that may have effects on participant’s medical adherence
