What do economists do at WO and MEB? • Research and publications • Policy advice and preparation • External representation (e.g. conferences), external and internal presentation of work • Participation in academic and policy networks • Keeping up with development in economic theory, research methodologies and institutions

  4. Monetary and Economic Policy Department • Economic Policy: Prepares DNB’s views on non-monetary issues. Prime examples are public finances, aging of the population, health sector etc. • European Integration: Focus lies on the Dutch input on issues of European integration. Examples: EMU enlargement, institutional issues such as the European convent, co-ordination of policies. • Financial Stability: Tackles financial stability from a macroeconomic perspective, such as structural risks in the housing market, changes in the financial constraints of firms of country risks. Strong involvement in IMF matters. • Monetary policy: Covers all aspects of monetary policy making, such as inflation developments, monetary strategy, state of the economy, electronic money.
