Thrift bank sector reported sound financial results • total assets reached P495.68 Bn, higher by 17.47% than year ago’s P421.97 Bn • total loan portfolio (gross) reached P311.76 Bn, up by 12.33% from year ago’s P219.52 Bn • NPL ratio at 6.87%, easing by1.38 percentage points from last year’s 8.25 percent ratio • the industry sustained a single-digit NPL ratio for the past 33 months

  3. Convention Theme: “Thrift Banks: Government’s Partner in Promoting Economic Growth - Part 2” • underscores continuing partnership with the different agencies of Government in ensuring sustained economic growth • address the various concerns of the sector, both legislative and regulatory

  4. TBs continued perform its vital role on SME financing and Housing • allocated about 22.80% or • P71.08 billion to housing • dedicated about 31.11% of its loan portfolio to SMEs

  5. CTB Legislative agenda • Introduce legislation on Free Patent • Support the proposed Corporate Recovery and Insolvency Act • Take the lead in ensuring the passage of CISA

  6. Judicial Agenda • establishment of banking or special courts

  7. Regulatory Agenda • continue to work closely with the Bangko Sentral to ensure a manageable operating environment for CTB members

CTB initiatives which gained BangkoSentral approval in 2007 • grant of authority to engage in limited trust business • substantial reduction of the minimum capital requirement to operate an FCDU • investments in long-dated marketable securities • less restrictive required experience for heads of FCDU • grant of authority for thrift banks to engage in derivatives activities
