  2. Unpacking the Learning Targets… • I can select evidence from both The Lightning Thief and “The Hero’s Journey” that shows how Percy is on a hero’s journey. • I can write a paragraph describing how Percy’s experiences align with “The Hero’s Journey” that shows how Percy is on a hero’s journey.

  3. Think- Pair- Share… What does the word “paragraph” mean to you? What does a paragraph include?

  4. Let’s share some of your favorite lines from chapter 7, “I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom.” Reminder… a “favorite line” might be a short excerpt (often one sentence” that is either funny, intriguing, thought-provoking, or has beautiful language. * 2 minutes to search

  6. Independent Writing: How Does Percy’s Experience Align with “The Hero’s Journey?”

  7. Congratulations! Today will be the first time you will go through the writing process on your own! So far…. • You chose evidence with help from your teachers • You collected evidence with your triads • You wrote in partnerships You have learned a lot!!

  8. Today… You get to show what you have learned! • Handout… Choosing Evidence: Percy Jackson and “The Hero’s Journey.” *Practice for your Assessment for lesson 13!

  9. Percy Jackson and “The Hero’s Journey” • You will focus your work on pages 93-95 in chapter 7 • There are several examples of Percy having experiences aligning with “The Hero’s Journey.”

  10. Percy’s experiences can be aligned to: • “Entering the Unknown.” 2. “Supernatural Aid” 3. “Allies and Helpers” 4. “The Road of Trials.”

Directions… • Reread the four parts listed on the board that we just mentioned. • Choose ONE experience in The Lightning Thief and match it with a stage of the hero’s journey. • Gather evidence from The Lightning Thief. • Gather evidence from “The Hero’s Journey.” • Use your graphic organizer to help you write your paragraph.

You have 10 minutes to read your partners writing and complete Peer Feedback: Checking for Criteria Recording Form Checklist.

  15. Homework: Do a first draft read of Chapter 8. Use your flags as you think about your purpose for reading.
