  1. High Level Battery Test Description

  2. Test Setup

  3. Test setup • The measurement technique described in the “GSM/ECTEL Battery Life Measurement Technique Document” could also be looked at. • Either method does not affect the spirit of the test as the target is to get a snapshot of UE current draw and not battery capacity.

  4. Standby • Test measures the average current consumption during idle state, which quickly calculates the standby time of the UE in minutes instead of days. • Test is performed with a current sensing power supply. Battery capacity is determined by dividing the battery (mAh) by the measured average idle current (mA). • Variables in the test case are SIB parameters that effect standby. • SIB values will be based on actual field data.

  5. Dynamic Standby • Test measures the average current consumption during idle state, which quickly calculates the standby time of the UE in minutes instead of days. • Test is performed with a current sensing power supply. Battery capacity is determined by dividing the battery (mAh) by the measured average idle current (mA). • Variables in the test case are the 3GPP fading models and idle cell reselection. • Idle cell reselection suggestion will be based on actual field data. User will have option to change value.

  6. Dynamic Talk time • Test measures the average current consumption during idle state, which quickly calculates the talk time of the UE in minutes instead of days. • Test is performed with a current sensing power supply. Battery capacity is determined by dividing the battery (mAh) by the measured average idle current (mA). • Variables in the test case are the 3GPP fading models and amount of time spent in soft/softer handoffs. • Soft/Softer handoff parameters will be based on collected field data. This will be done for both urban and suburban environments.
