  1. 1 Why Hire a Sat English Tutor for Your Child? As teaching evolves, there is a greater emphasis on checking and testing. It used to be that there was the 11-plus at the end of primary education, and then GCSE’s at the end of secondary education. Of course, a pupil could go on to do A-levels and even a degree, both of which involve final testing in the form of exams. But testing at those stages is quite far apart and it was decided to put another series of tests in place – SATs. SATs are national tests in the UK that children sit twice during their primary school education. Firstly, at the end of Key Stage 1 (KS1) in Year 2, and then secondly, at the end of Key Stage 2 (KS2) in Year 6. These standardized tests are actually designated as End of Key Stage Tests and Assessments, but they are generally referred to as SATs. https://www.elitetuitiongroup.co.uk/

  2. 2 SATs have been set up as a good indicator of the progress your child has made at school so far. They are not intended to be a measure of whether your child is passing or failing in their current school life; they simply show what level your child is currently working to. While they are not intended as a measure, they can be used to give a good indication of how the child is progressing and whether any intervention is required. The two key stages are treated in slightly different ways; KS1. These initial tests are always assessed by the teachers at the schools concerned. This means that there is no need for any external marking, and while there might be some occasionally moderation, they are only ever kept within the school. The tests themselves tend to be fairly informal, so that the notion of doing them does not to create any undue stress for the young pupils. Currently, children are tested in mathematics and English, which is broken down into the elements of reading, spelling, grammar and punctuation. KS2. Pupils usually sit their second set of SATs at KS2 level in Year 6. These tests are generally more formal than those taken in KS1 and have set exam days as well as external marking in the majority of schools. This is seen as a means of helping older children prepare for their 11-plus exams. Pupils will take exams in English reading, English comprehension, grammar, punctuation, spelling, while they will also be tested on mathematical reasoning, and their use of arithmetic. https://www.elitetuitiongroup.co.uk/

  3. 3 While fairly informal, both of these tests are important and if you can give your child the edge, it is always worthwhile. While you don’t want to over-emphasis the importance of these tests, it is always worthwhile helping your child prepare for the tests, and the best way to do that is with the assistance of an online tutor.
